Born on December 21, 1965 in Saitama Prefecture, Okegawa City, Japan, Masahiro Motoki has become a well-known and respected Japanese actor in Japanese film, television, and other cinema. He is a member of the noted Japanese talent agency From 1st Pro. He is most known for his roles in the films Asobi no jikan wa owaranai, Shiko funjatta, [[Last Song], Chûjoku no chôjin, and Sôseiji.

He is currently married to Yayako Uchida, with whom he tied the knot in July 1995, and together the couple has two children.

Motoki got started in acting with a role in the film Shibugakitai: Boys and Girls in 1982, when he was just 17. His acting career multiplied from there, and his filmography now includes an extensive list of a wide variety of roles he has portrayed since then.

Throughout his Japanese acting career, Motoki has been honored with an impressive nine awards as well as two nominations. From the Awards of the Japanese Academy, Motoki was nominated twice for Best Actor (Last Song in [[[1993]] and Sôseiji in 1999), and won the prestigious Best Actor award once (for 1992’s Shiki funjatta) and Newcomer of the Year in 1989, when he was 24 years old.

Other awards granted to Motoki for his acting skills include a Japanese Professional Movie Award for Best Actor in 1991’s Asobi no jikan wa owaranai; a Blue Ribbon Award, Hochi Film Award, and Yokohama Film Festival prize all for Best Actor in 1992 for the movie Shiko funjatta; a Best Actor award from the Tokyo International Film Festival for Last Song in 1993; and for his performance in Chûjoku no chôjin (1998), Motoki garnered a Mainichi Film Concours and a Nikkan Sports Film Award (for Best Actor).
