The GazettE is a visual kei band, known as Gazette (in Japanese characters) until 2006. The band was formed in 2002 by guitarist Uruha, bassist Reita, vocalist Ruki, guitarist Aoi ex-drummer Yune and current drummer, Kai. Ruki, Uruha and Reita had worked together in previous bands. Their first single, Wakaremichi, was released in 2002 on the Matina label. In 2003, Yune left to be replaced by Kai and they signed to the PS Company label. They embarked on their first tour with indie band Hanamuke, and released the mini-album, Cockayne Soup. Two more mini albums followed and they continued touring for the rest of the year.

Gazette opened 2004 by performing at the Shibuya AX and opening their official fan club. After a second live DVD, they released their first full album, Disorder. Most of 2005 was spent touring. Gazette released a few items in between their touring and their photo book Verwelktes Gedicht. They ended the year as part of the PEACE & SMILE CARNIVAL TOUR 2005 put on by their label and released the single Cassis, the last single to be released under the Gazette name.

2006 saw the release of a new album, Nil. This was swiftly followed by another tour of over thirty shows. They also made their first European appearance in Germany at the end of July.

More tour dates and singles followed, as well as the album STACKED RUBBISH.
