Dreams Come True was founded in 1988 by Masato Nakamura, who arranges and produces their music, along with Miwa Yoshida (vocals) and Takahiro Nishikawa, (keyboards). Dreams Come True's music is a fusion of diverse musical genres, including jazz, rock, pop, R&B, techno, and funk.

They have had 22 top five singles, ten of which reached number one, as well as eleven number one albums. Their second album, Love Goes On, spent over four years in the charts. Dreams Come True is known for setting standards on the sales front as well. With over 30 million in album sales and 15 million in singles sales, Dreams Come True is one of the best selling Japanese artists of all time. Their album The Swinging Star was the first album in Japanese history to sell more than 3 million copies.

Dreams Come True sell out venues as large as 50,000 all over Japan. They have built their own venues to create unique stage designs, so they can give everyone in the audience a chance to have a front row seat.

The band performs in both Japanese and English. They debuted in 1989 with the single Anata ni Aitakute and the album, Dreams Come True.

In 1996, Yoshida released a solo album, Beauty And Harmony. In 1997 DCT left Sony and signed a deal with Virgin, reportedly for $25 million, hoping to crack the US market. The English language version of their album Sing or Die was unsuccessful in the US, but Dreams Come True continued to flourish in Japan.

Nishikawa left the band in 2002. The following year, he was arrested on assault and drug charges, for which he received a suspended sentence. A second arrest for drug possession in 2006 led to a prison sentence.

Nakamura composed the music for Sonic the Hedgehog and Sonic the Hedgehog 2 for the Playstation and XBox games. Yoshida is also famous for her solo singing career in Japan. A set of Dreams Come True songs was compiled and used in the game Dancing Stage featuring Dreams Come True.

The band took part in the Live 8 concert in Chiba, Japan in 2005.
