Inspired by elegant styled clothing from the Rococo period, the brand has been referred to as "old fashioned" but still wearable in today's high fashion setting. The line currently includes blouses, cut saws, jackets and coats, jumper skirts, headdresses, bags or purses, shoes and socks for young girls. Supporting the ideas of traditional values all clothing has been designed to cover most of the body leaving very little exposed. Each piece features traditional floral prints, deep and muted colors, slimmer styling and empire waists BTSSB clothing offers a vintage appearance which can be worn by young girls seeking an upscale look. To create complete looks BTSSB also creates accessories including hair bands, hair corsages, headdresses, handbags and miniature hats.
BABY, THE STARS SHINE BRIGHT (BTSSB) was founded in 1988 by Akinori Isobe and his wife, Fumiyo. They were originally located in Shibuya, Tokyo Japan. When first opening its doors to the public, BTSSB only consisted of three designers; Isobe, Fumiyo, and a close friend. Taking a while to find their niche style, initial sales of BTSSB clothing were weak causing Isobe to rethink the style needed in modern day fashions.
Finding inspiration in a local shop offering Lolita fashions fueled the now trend setting styles found sporting the brand name tags BTSSB. While the sales have grown since hitting the market, Isobe is not afraid to admit his involvement in the dirty work of producing, marketing, and managing BTSSB.
In 2004 a movie called 'Kamikaze Girls', or 'Shimotsuma Monogatarie' in Japan, was released featuring a character role for the creator of BABY, THE STARS SHINE BRIGHT who was played by Yoshinori Okada. This movie, staring popular Japanese actress Anna Tsuchiya, helped to bring the eyes of many new fans to the elegant styles offered by BTSSB and what went into the style of the clothing from this era.
