'''Def Tech''' is a Jawaiian ([[Japanese]] + [[Hawai]]ian ) reggae vocal unit comprising [[SHEN]], from Hawaii and [[MICRO]], from [[Japan]]. Shen (28th August [[1980]]) was born in the People's Republic of China and grew up in Hawaii. Having has visited Japan over many years for his father's job made him bilingual in English and Japanese. Micro, [[Yuki Nishimiya]] (9th August [[1981]]), was originally from [[Ota]], [[Tokyo]] and graduated from [[Hosei University]]. He created a label called [[''Primary Color Recordz'']] in February [[2007]]. The two met through a mutual friend, [[Jesse]], who is a member of Japanese band [[Rize]].

Def Tech fuses dancehall reggae and hip hop to create infectious party music. Their self-titled debut album was released in January [[2005]]. It went to No. 1 in the charts and has sold over 1.1 million copies. Their second album [[''Lokahi Lani'']], broke the record for initial indies albums sales.

== Trivia ==

[[''Catch The Wave'']] includes a title track that was used for the [[2006]] film Catch a Wave. Micro played the role of a of surfer in the film.

The [[PlayStation]] drumming simulation game [[Taiko no Tatsujin]] includes the Def Tech track [[My Way]].
