Theme Parks in Japan are rampant, many of them built during the bubble years of the 1980s and 1990s in the Japanese economy. Ranging between domestic and overseas properties, parks throughout Japan gather millions of visitors each year.

Tokyo Disneyland and Disney Sea

The pair of Japanese owned Disney theme parks in Chiba Prefecture draw huge crowds every year as the third largest Disney park in the world. Tokyo Disneyland is based largely on the original park while Disney Sea is a 7 portal theme park with numerous water themed attractions.

Tobu World Square

Located in Tochigi Prefecture in Fujihara-machi, Tobu World Square consists of bits and pieces of major world monuments and sites all built to 1/25 scale. Open every day from 9:00-17:00 with admission fees of 2500 Yen for adults and 1200 Yen for children, the park is among the more popular domestic parks in Japan.

Fujikyu Highlands

Located in Yamanashi Prefecture in Fuji-Yoshida, the park is open every day from 10:00 to 23:00 with an admission cost of 4500 Yen for adults and 3300 Yen for children.

Yomiuri Land

Owned and operated by the company that owns the Yomiuri Giants – the most popular baseball team in Japan, Yomiuri Land is a traditional style theme park with rides drawn from American and European style fairs. Located in Inagi within Tokyo Prefecture, the park is open every day from 10:00-17:00 and has an admission fee of 3900 Yen for adults and 2900 Yen for children.

Sanrio Puroland

Located in Tama, Tokyo, Sanrio Puroland is an all indoor themepark themed after the characters of Sanrio, largely Hello Kitty and her related characters. Hours are 10:00-17:00 and admission is 3000 Yen for adults and 2000 Yen for children.

Universal Studios Japan

Opened in 2001, Universal Studios Japan operates in Osaka Prefecture and is based on the Universal Studios parks located in California and Florida, emulating many of the same rides and segments of the park. The park is open daily from 9:00-19:00 and admission is 5500 Yen for adults and 3700 Yen for children.

Huis ten Bosch

This theme park is located in Sasebo, Nagasaki Prefecture that emulates the famous Holland Villages theme park model. It is another very popular domestic theme park. Open from 9:00-21:30 every day the admission for the park is 4800 Yen for adults and 2600 Yen for children
