Overview

Shido Nakamura was born September 14, 1972 in Tokyo, Japan, with the birth name Mikihiko Ogawa. In addition to his work in film, he is also a trained Kabuki actor. Kabuki is a traditional form of Japanese theater which is marked by elaborate make-up and unique dramatic styling. Although he began acting in the Kabuki Theater in 1981, he did not make his film debut until 2002. He has since acted in approximately twenty films, including several that have received international acclaim. One such movie was Clint Eastwood’s Letters from Iwo Jima, which was nominated for an Oscar for best film. He also has leant his voice to the Japanese television show Desu nôto, where he plays the character “Ryuuku the Death.”

Awards

In 2004, Shido Nakamura was nominated for Best Supporting Actor from the Award of the Japanese Academy for his role in Ashura no gotoku. In 2003, he won the Newcomer of the Year Award from the Japanese Academy for his role in Ping Pong. He also won a Blue Ribbon Award and a Mainichi Film Concours Award in 2002 for his role in Ping Pong. Additionally, he won Best Supporting Actor from the Nikkan Sports Film Awards for his role in Ima, ai ni yukimasu in 2004.
