Neo Nihonga is a term that Japanese artist Hisashi Tenmyouya coined to describe his body of work. In his 2006 Kawade Shobo Shinsha catalog he writes of, "...taking thematic and technical approaches from traditional Japanese painting and reviving them..." In the 2006 catalog he also mentions the importance of social satire, something that figures prominently in his work.
