Kagerou was a visual kei band formed in 1999 by vocalist Daisuke, and bassist MASAYA, who were later joined by guitarist Yuana. Kagerou means mayfly in Japanese and refers to a short lifespan. This has been related to Daisuke’s heart problems as he wrote most of the band’s lyrics. Much of their music is dark and angst ridden.

In 2000, Kagerou moved from the label Loop Ash to Lizard inside of Free-Will. After having become popular in Japan, they played Germany and France in 2005.

The band announced their break up at a concert in September 2006. They followed this with the release of a final greatest hits album entitled Shinjuka .
