The Japanese Zodiac utilizes twelve animal signs given to different years in the same form of the Chinese Zodiac. Broken into 12 zones of time by year, every twelve years represents a different form for the personality of the individual.

Rat (nezumi)

2008, 1996, 1984, 1972, 1960, 1948, 1936, 1924

These individuals are honest, hard working and good at pursuing their goals to an end. They will work hard to achieve their goals, but may become easily angered even if their external controls do not show it.

Ox (ushi)

1997, 1985, 1973, 1961, 1949, 1937, 1925, 1913

These individuals are patient, alert and skillful speakers when it is required of them. They can inspire confidence in those around them and are thus able to achieve great deals of success.

Tiger (tora)

1998, 1986, 1974, 1962, 1950, 1938, 1926, 1914

These individuals are both stubborn and sensitive at the same time. They can be courageous, selfish and a bit mean at times but they tend towards deep thought and can be incredibly sympathetic when needed.

Rabbit (usage)

1999, 1987, 1975, 1963, 1951, 1939, 1927, 1915

These individuals are talented, virtuous and ambitious in their goals. They can be great talkers and have fine tastes in their life. They are widely admired by their peers and trusted for their judgment.

Dragon (tatsu)

2000, 1988, 1976, 1964, 1952, 1940, 1928, 1916

These individuals are energetic, excitable and largely healthy in their life, but they can be quite stubborn and short tempered. They are most honest though and inspire trust in almost anyone they meet.

Snake (hebi) - 2001, 1989, 1977, 1965, 1953, 1941, 1929, 1917

These individuals are thinkers who speak very little and have a great deal of wisdom. They are financially savvy and can always get it when they need it and hate the idea of failure.

Horse (uma)

2002, 1990, 1978, 1966, 1954, 1942, 1930, 1918, 1906

These individuals are good at paying compliments and tend to talk entirely too much. They are skilled with finances and think quickly, displaying a great deal of wisdom and talent. They are easily angered however and impatient in most things.

Sheep (hitsuji)

2003, 1991, 1979, 1967, 1955, 1943, 1931, 1919, 1907

These individuals are accomplished in the arts and lovers of nature. They often appear to be better off than their fellow zodiacs and are very religious in their lives, passionate in almost everything they do.

Monkey (saru)

2004, 1992, 1980, 1968, 1956, 1944, 1932, 1920, 1908

These individuals are known to be the scattered geniuses of the group. They are clever in large concepts and ideas and intelligent with finances. They are easily able to solve problems and are usually quite creative.

Rooster (tori)

2005, 1981, 1969, 1957, 1945, 1933, 1921, 1909

These individuals think deeply and are usually busy and devoted to work. They constantly try to do more than they are capable of doing and when they try to do something beyond their abilities, they become disappointed. They will also say what is on their mind most of the time.

Dog (inu)

2006, 1982, 1970, 1958, 1946, 1934, 1922, 1910

These individuals will often have the many qualities of humanity in their character – duty, loyalty, honest, and strong compatibility in relationships.

Boar(inoshishi)

2007, 1983, 1971, 1959, 1947, 1935, 1923, 1911

These individuals are brave and have a great deal of inner strength which cannot be overcome. They are honest yet short tempered. They dislike fighting and are generally affectionate.
