Hideaki Kawashima is a Japanese artist. He was born in 1969 in the Aichi Prefecture in China, but currently resides in Tokyo, Japan. He graduated from Tokyo Zokei University in 1991, but starting in 1995 he began to be trained in classical Buddhism.

Artistic Style

While many artists are known for a primary style but has many sub-styles, Hideaki Kawashima is known almost exclusively for a single style – a small, rounded head drawn in very light colors and always the same rounded shape, trailing and tailing off at the end. The paintings are almost exclusively of women, even when the subject is assumed to be ambiguous. Almost every painting has at least one eye, also drawn in a feminine manner and often cornered off and almond shaped. In addition, the circles are often drawn with small lips painted in such a matter as to appear to be lipstick.

While hair is not always seen on the paintings, there are what appear to be strands of some type of hair like substance that trail off of the bottom of the face on the bottom.

Exhibitions

Hideaki Kawashima has had 3 solo exhibitions, called “Wavering,” “Mutability,” and “Shadow Monk” and shown almost exclusively at the Tomio Koyama gallery. In addition, he has participated in six group exhibitions and 3 different books, including two that were edited and organized by famous Japanese artist Takashi Murakami.
