Shibuya Eggman is a live hall and dance club located in Shibuya, Tokyo. It opened in 1981. Eggman is one of Shibuya’s most established clubs, though it still tends to fit mostly indie and underground bands. Reggae and hip hop have also become popular musical types since the year 2000.

Shibuya Eggman is also a popular venue for comedy shows, fashion shows and theater. It was originally named only “Egg-Man,” then it was renamed “CLUB eggsite” in 2001, and renamed again “Shibuya Eggman” in 2003.

History

When Eggman opened in 1981, there were very few live music halls in Shibuya (Shibuya is now one of the most well known live hall areas in Tokyo and all of Japan). It was and is a very small club, so most of the bands that played there were less well known when they started. It’s first year, artists like J-WALK and Cedar and Truth played there.

By 1987, many of the shows at Shibuya Eggman were selling out long before the artists went on stage.

In 2006, Shibuya Eggman celebrated its 25 year anniversary.

Facility

Shibuya Eggman is a very small live music club. It can fit about 110 people in its small facility. Its entrance is right next to the half oval shaped main stage. Behind the stage is a VIP room next to the lighting booth and VJ booth. The makeup room for artists is directly next to the stage. The main dance floor has almost no tables and only a few stools. In general, standing is expected.

There is also a small counter with 7 stools where alcohol is served. The bar area is not very large, but since the dance hall only fits 110 people, there is enough room for most attendees to grab a drink.

The entrance has bright lights, including a giant lit egg. Unlike many of the more underground clubs in Shibuya, Eggman looks like a dance club from the outside and advertises itself as such.
