Bloodthirsty Butchers began in 1987 by three high school Sapporo, Hokkaido. The band soon went to Tokyo in order to concentrate on their live performance and music composition. Despite many difficulties in working together to compose music, they eventually released their first major single, Sankaku, in 1999. They gained much attention from artists overseas and soon began touring as an opening act for other foreign artists such as Jeff Beck and Rage Against the Machine. The band added an additional guitarist in 2003, a girl named Hisako Tabuchi, formerly of the band Number Girl.
