The land now known as Kyu-Iwasaki-tei Teien Garden was first claimed by the Echigo Takada Clan in the beginnings of the Edo Period. Once claiming the territory it was turned into a large garden for relaxing while enjoying Mother Nature.
Around 1896, the land was bought by the Iwasaki family and used to house several corporate buildings for their company, Mitsubishi Group. In addition to the Iwasaki family buildings there were a few other smaller companies and residents given private rights to building on the land. Many of these buildings were built by a famous architect from the UK named Josiah Conder.
Kyu-Iwasaki-tei Teien Garden can be accessed using either the subway lines or rail lines of the area. If traveling the Tokyo-metro Chiyoda Line to Yushima Station it is a 3 minute walk to the garden. If traveling the Tokyo-metro Ginza Line to Ueno-hirokoji Station it is a 10 minute walk. For those reaching the park by Toei Subway Oedo Line to Ueno-okachimachi Station it is a 10 minute walk.
